can ANYONE of my 24 squillon followers...
(I wish!)
please, please PLEASE throw some light on...
the fact in my cupboard in my 300 year old cottage...
I have a very strong smell of...
Wait from it...
WOOD?
Answers on a postcard...
NO forget that bit...
AT ONCE through cyber space...
Alright, I know I do live in an oak framed cottage but even so...
I need help!
Could it be this, a wasp nest pong?
Two of which were exterminated (sadly) yesterday.
Your thoughts would be gratefully and grovellingly received.

No idea, sorry :o(
ReplyDeleteDid the stink start AFTER they had been exterminated? Were chemicals used?
I'll have to pop by later and see if anyone has got any ideas.
xx
Hi Jo, No the smell was gradually getting worse. I suggested to the wasp killer man he ought to accompany me up to my boudoir in the eaves and have a sniff! Well what he thought heaven only knows? However he duly stuck his head in me closet and declared he had no idea, well you would wouldn't you! LLX Any help? No probably not! LLX
ReplyDeleteIt could be dampness of some sort......do you have a leak in your roof or something like that because wood when damp/wet does smell woody.
ReplyDeleteWish I could come up with a very intelligent answer for you L, but sorry not a clue. x
ReplyDeleteQuick googles say wasp nests would leave a 'dead thing' smell, but a woody, damp or mushroomy pong suggests some sort of timber decay... when was the knocking sound heard? Apparently DW beetles are active in May/June xx
ReplyDeleteHad a little search as I'm sitting here drinking my coffee and found that you can use several things to absorb the odours from wood: bowls of ground coffee (like the sound of that), charcoal (BBQ stuff) and bicarb. I'd try one these first before all the bother of washing the cupboard and drying it. Hope this helps:)
ReplyDeleteThanks girls, I'm off now to distribute bowls of coffee grounds, got lots as Hubs has been collecting them for the other pests in my life - SLUGS!
ReplyDeleteWSD - Sound of knocking!?! As you well know a blooming regiment of SAS SOLDIERS CARRYING FULL KIT wouldn't disturb my deafly dozy slumbers.
I'm going back to my KItsch and Stitch preparation...
In fact did I remind you...
it's NEXT SATURDAY!
NEVER ONE TO MISS A TRICK ME!
LLX
Hope you get it sorted, very miss Marple! lol! Good Luck with your next fair, it will be another great success darling!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda not sure about the wood smell but in Sarah Ravens catalogue there is a fake wasps nest that you can hang up so that the wasps think there is already a nest there and don't build one :) x
